APPROACHING MBA ALUMNI FOR HELP IN ADMISSIONS
Approaching MBA alumni is a great way to get information: the people who best know any program are those who have been through it before. Alumni have the best sense of a program's direction, focus, benefits and challenges. Approaching an MBA alumnus for tips on admissions and on program content can give prospective students a huge advantage in their application process.

How do I approach MBA alumni?
It is always more comfortable to talk to friends or acquaintances than to strangers, so your first step might be to ask around among friends, family, co-workers and acquaintances to see if any of them have an MBA, or know someone who does, and might be willing to answer your questions. If you cannot find anyone close to you, you may be able to find forums or sites on the Internet designed for MBA alumni. You can then contact them, but remember to be polite and friendly: you are asking them to do you a favor.

What should I ask MBA alumni?
What questions you have will depend on what you already know, on your own background, and on what research you have been able to do on your own.

In terms of admissions, any alumni of the program you are applying to will be able to tell you what to do to pass the entrance interview or write a solid personal statement. They can advise you on what topics to include, what topics to avoid, and what might appeal particularly to the admissions committee of your chosen program.

Alumni of your intended program can also give you information on how the program runs, what to expect from the faculty and support staff, and what to expect from your courses. This can help you make the best choices in regards to your program, and might give you forewarning about any potential problems.

Finally, always make sure to thank any MBA alumni who take the time to answer your questions or give you help. Their assistance can make a big difference in your MBA application and acceptance.
