Online MBA programs help meet the needs of the almost two thirds of today's MBA students who study part-time. In fact, some online MBA programs will even grant course credits based on work experience. As well, most online schools will offer the same financial aid, grants, and loan packages as their campus-based equivalents. Online MBA programs vary in length, ranging from two years to an accelerated schedule, thereby enabling students to complete their degree in less time than other MBA programs allow.
Online MBA programs are offered in various formats. In one format, students work individually to complete the required courses and modules. This flexible format allows students to complete courses at a self-paced rate, with no fixed completion schedule for courses or modules.
Another option is the cohort format. A cohort format involves an entire class, potentially upwards of twenty-five students, who are broken down into smaller groups (e.g., teams of three to five students) according to experience and career goals. Students in each cohort not only progress through the program together, they also begin and end each course module in unison. For each course, a set of weekly interactive exercises, completed either individually or in teams, facilitate shared learning.
Completing an online MBA course or module means more than just studying and interacting with online course content. Students also read assigned textbook and supplemental readings, participate in required online interactive exercises and may be required to complete an online quiz. As well, one or more residencies at the business school may be required.
